Uncle Dave’s 57 Chevy

Uncle Dave with the finished Truck
There is a lot of family history behind David Withers’ 1957 Chevy half-ton. "Uncle Dave’s" dad bought the truck in 1959 and used it as a gentleman’s farm truck. Dave and his brothers all learned to drive in “the old truck” and dad kept it until he passed away.

Uncle Dave was a tractor collector. He restored several tractors and when his dad passed, Dave gave the truck to a friend who had helped with some of his tractor restorations.

The 57 was a basically a straight, rust-free truck and Uncle Dave’s friend did a nut and bolt, frame off restification. A complete front frame clip with small block Chevy, automatic transmission and IFS was swapped in for modern performance to go with the vintage style.

After enjoying the truck for a several years the friend called Uncle Dave and asked if he wanted to buy the truck back. He did.

Uncle Dave went on to his next adventure earlier this month after a heart attack. The 57 was the first and last vehicle he ever drove.

Uncle Dave was a gentle and generous man. He was a car guy who always had something interesting in the garage. We went to the Indy 500 together. We went to the Barrett Jackson Auction. We went to lunch once and Uncle Dave bought an old BMW on the way. He had more fun teasing his wife Cindy about buying the car than he did actually owning it.

So yea, this is a special truck.

I'll miss Dave.
